Mr. Patteson
Observation Exercise
2 People:
1) Standing tall and plump, she teaches at the head of the room. Her long, orange, mermaid like hair wraps around her upper body. This beautiful hair wraps around her head swirling to the right. It is modern, but seems to long for the past of big hair and hairspray. In this layered orange hair is a round face with a smile that measures half of it. This mermaid women has tattooed eyebrows, orange to be exact that are too dark for her skin complexion and not her natural color. She is wearing glasses that are so clear they look like a river that has not been touched by the delicate mouth of a thirsted being. At the end of the gasses by the corners of her eyes, the glasses come to a different material that wraps around her ear. This part is a delicate metal that had been molded at the edges into small perfect flowers. Behind these clear lenses are a pair of eyes that are a dull blue, and yet observant and intense. They have seen much and seem to be a bit tired. Although her eyes are tired her skin is clean, and somewhat smooth. Below her eyes on the bottom of her face is her mouth. It is large and full smothered in an orange substance that is surely not her natural color. This woman is an hourglass figure on the top but an upside down triangle on the bottom. On her interesting figure, there is a knee length dress that is extremely modest. On the dress there is every color imaginable in no specific pattern or order. It reminds me of India or tiles; layers upon layers of color. I ask myself, “How can all of this fit in one dress?” Lastly, she wears long pointed black shoes trimmed in white. She seems to express her emotion through her outfit. Her life is chaotic, and all over the place. She also thinks that color can hide everything. The more and more and more she puts on the more it covers, and yet… one can still see the roles hugging her body loosely and the bags underneath her eyes and makeup, and the woman that once was. The woman who lived her life in the past, the woman who could steal all the eyes away from the world, now stuck in the future trying to cover up the tolls time had taken.
2) In a newly bought dress she hastily walks around the room being waited on for every need. She wears a long flowey brown dress, tight to her form then slowly falling to the floor. It is layered on the upper half. It is strapless and shows more skin than she is really comfortable with, but her mother tells her she is beautiful and she reluctantly gives in to what she is not sure about. Her hair is loosely pinned up in a half ponytail in a simple stunning clip. Her hair has tried to have been curled but it has stuck strait and not given in to what it did not want to do. It stayed in its ‘safety zone’ of straightness. She has rubbed extracts, smelly lotions, and color on her face, her eyes, and her cheeks, and her lips, but they seem to cover up her natural beauty that is trying to glow from beneath all of it. Her smooth frail neck is wrapped in pearls of shades of brown. Her earrings match the same colors. The door rings and her date is hear. Her mother starts rambling on about edict and safety and goes to open the door. Just before she opens she whispers with intensity “there is pepper spray in your bag!” With a sudden shade of red on her face, the boy walks in wearing an absolutely hideous white pin stripped suit, but she seems content and that is all that matters. He comes close to her and wraps his arm around her and waits quietly with her for the pictures to be snapped. He touches her too much and finds pleasure in gently pressing her stomach. Ew. I guess I’ll never know that feeling until I’m actually experiencing it. As this is going on, she just smiles, but her eyes seem to be expressing her awkwardness in the situation. It’s like she’s her porcelain doll that can be touched and moved and all those things, but is never able to move her self and express what she wants. Her father comes in and scrutinizes the strapless dress and then moves onto the boy. His harsh medical eyes scan through the innocent boy. His glare says more than his words. She is hoping through her body language she will be able to get out of the house as quickly as possible. Reluctantly after all the pictures have been shot, the harsh, yet caring father lets go of his little girl all grown up and the hysterical mother weepingly says, “Ha..ve … a.. go…oo..d ..night….” through blubbering tears. The door is closed and the couple walks down the driveway and whisk away in silence into the blanket of night not knowing what it will hold.
2 Scenes:
1) The room is a mess. It is a kitchen of a chaotic mother who is trying to find a steady anchor in her life at the moment. There are things of every color, country, size, shape, and form imaginable present in this room. Books from the far reaches of the west, tin vases from the coast, water bottles all over the counters, and more. The most visible distraction mess of chaos in the room however though is the sink. It is piled mile high with dishes of past meals needing a cleaning. They tip towards the soap and seem to be screaming for a rinse. Besides, who doesn’t like to be clean? There is dinner from past night’s dinner- lasagna, pasta, meat, Mexican, and an interesting gew of something that I cannot identify. Although this room is an absolute mess with things placed everywhere, there somehow seems to be a unifier or a connection in the room. That would strangely enough be the vase of assorted flowers in the center of the table, it that is a table. One would not be able to know because of the messiness. In this vase there is one orange rose, violet daisies, long pink and purple strands of flowers and assorted greenery placed at the bottom. I somehow am able to connect with these flowers, which ties the room up. It no longer is a mass of chaos, but assists in showing the perfectness of these curled, vibrant, lively flowers. It seems to symbolize to me that I need to keep what is important to me in the center of my life. It also portrays that it will be hard to do so and many things will try and take over this priority, but it is a necessary demand to keep the flowers, or things that are important to me in my life at the center or else, they will slowly disappear and fall under the heaping piles of mess and chaos.
2) In the corner of the large room, there are many machines. They are large and are a pasty creme color. They are helping students and citiczens and local people print papers, or find documents, or relax and play around on. People sit in long rows facing eachother. It is interesting to look at the back of the machine. The back of the computer has big bold letters stating SAMSUNG. Behind this there are cornrow streaks falling ever downward toward the bottom. They are suddenly cut of by an indent that allows two cords the be plugged in. One chord is blue and one is black. In these cornrows there are random dots and holes that seem to have no reason at all to be there. On the far right of the computer, there is a white label naming it. This makes this specific computer special because although it looks like the rest, and works the same, and mostly serves the same purpose, it is diffrent. It is made of its own material and works for diffrent types of people, and that makes it unique in the world. This is the same problem that people have today. They don't know that they are special. They feel that they are the same as everybody else. They don't know who they are, and yet they are so diffrent; just like the computer. This computer also acts as a cover for the many people who work on them daily. They hide the peoples face and all you can see are a pair of eyes. These eyes can be blue or green or hazel. They can franticly scan, nonchalantly glaze, or fiercly glare at the computuer. The fun part about all of this is though, when these eyes peel themselves away from the box of knowledge and stare at you.
